Learning Safe Sex with the girl guides?
A survey by Girlguiding UK of over 1000 girls guides on what they need to know, inorder to remain useful and relevant, has revealed some unexpected findings. Among others, girl guides say they need to know more about safe sex and assembling flat-pack furniture as well as know how to manage debts and reduce the size of their carbon footprint.
Among the guides over the age of 16, “practising safe sex” was the fourth highest concern, with “assembling flat-pack furniture” eighth.
A spokeswoman said that the movement would act on the findings and make sure that the appeal for more information on sex and money was met.
In the poll, the top concern among senior Guides, who are aged over 16, was learning the skill to manage money, especially when they were contemplating leaving the family home, for some, for further studies..
Younger Guides, those aged between 10 to 15, placed priority on more traditional skills such as “cooking a healthy meal” and “pitching a tent”. The youngest Guides, aged under 10, wanted to know how to surf the web safely and how to cross the road.
